Training capabilities and laboratories

The RMTC has now developed a substantial infrastructure, including a comfortable auditorium of the Conference Center, IPPE, and laboratories located at the IPPE site (Engineering Bldg., Nuclear Safety Criticality Experimental Bldg.). Theory classes are held at the IPPE Conference Center equipped with up-to-date classroom and visual aids (local computer network, video and digital projectors, VCRs, infrared emitter- based GLOBUS device for simultaneous interpretation, etc.).

Practical operating elements of NMC&A System are shown to RMTC students at the BFS facility, which is the IPPE leader in terms of equipment with the most advanced technologies and application of up-to-date procedures.

Six RMTC labs have been established or adapted and equipped with state-of-the-art instruments, hardware and software for hands-on training:

Computerized control and accounting lab

The laboratory has two computer classrooms with state-of-the-art computers and software; local computer network has access to Internet; RMTC has also developed its own web site.

Lab of non-destructive MC&A techniques and instruments

NDA laboratory is equipped with working nuclear standards, radioactive sources, various gamma-spectrometers for the measurement of U and Pu isotopic composition, active and passive neutron coincidence counters for measurement of U-235 and Pu mass in containers; a system for measurement of Pu mass in waste containers will be installed in 2000. In the future the NDA laboratory will be equipped with a wide inventory of Reference Material Standards.

Scale calibration lab

Scale calibration laboratory is equipped with electronic weighing platforms of two different types, two sets of certified weight standards, and appropriate computer hardware and software.

Bar coding techniques lab

Bar coding techniques laboratory is equipped with devices manufactured by Intermec company and software required for the bar code application, reading and code information processing.

Tank calibration lab

All engineering systems are in place, the lab equipment is underway. It will be dedicated to the training in large volume tank calibration and development of related methodology.

Containment and surveillance lab

C/S laboratory will be set up and provided with video surveillance and tamper-indicating devices.
